Germany puts a SPOTlight On Denmark

 |  Henrik Friis

Lucy Love at SPOT in May. That job secured her a slot at SPOT On Denmark in Hamburg.Over the latest years Danish music has really secured a strong foothold in Germany. And that the relationship has far from cooled off is made abundantly clear by the concert list for September:

First of all the SPOT Festival arrives in Hamburg on Saturday the 24th of September when SPOT On Denmark visits the Reeperbahn Festival: at the club Indra (where The Beatles played their first concerts in Germany back in the day) a quartet consisting of Treefight for Sunlight’s symphonic pop, Lucy Love’s grime rave, The Malpractice’s melodious alternative rock and girl duo Darkness Fall’s pop with beguiling synths and twang guitar will make up the cream of this year’s SPOT Festival in Denmark.

There were many acts in play, but in the end those four acts were the ones that the ten-strong German jury from nationwide as well as local radio stations, national magazines, management companies, record companies and booking agencies selected for the annual Danish Night in Hamburg.

And that’s not all: the Reeperbahn Festival (22nd – 24th September) has a lot more Danish acts in the line up: the new international Danish star Fallulah, the veterans of The Raveonettes, and the new riot-runners – the party animals of Reptile & Retard are but a few examples (see the provisional schedule below).

Strong Danish presence at Popkomm too
However, already in the beginning of September there will be a serious Danish presence at the Popkomm Festival in Berlin, where for the time being we know that Oh Land’s sophisticated electronic pop, Choir of Young Believers’ awe-inspiring pop and Rock Hard Power Spray’s muscular tracks are among the confirmed Danish acts – so far (see the schedule below)

Thus, plenty of Danish aces in Germany – and on top of that SPOT On Denmark will visit Cologne before the end of the year with more Danish goodies from the SPOT Festival. Well, we’ll get back to that one later…

* As is the case at all SPOT ON Denmark events, there will also be an international networking event before the showcase at 8 pm at Indra, September 24  – more information will follow soon.
